Updating awstats

The mytools batch files use awstats_to create traffic reports.

One of the options is -update which will update the database before creating the reports. This sets the month and year in the 'update now' link. If there is no update now link then check Allow To Update Stats From Browser in your config file. Once the update occurs you will be able to see the information in the AWStats screen. This works only if you have SSH access or you do it locally.

In a shared hosting environment, running stats can be very resource intensive, which is why this occurs.

We have been working on a long-term resolution to this issue.

There are a lot of reasons as of why the stats are not being updated which can include incorrect file permissions or configuration changes.

I am pointing the common reasons why the stats can fail to update and will add more reasons when I come across them.

Regardless of where invoked, the update process reads the log file (specified in config's Log File entry), parses it, and creates/updates a text file in Dir Data. Once a monthly database file has been updated, it does not have to be updated again; it can be viewed in the main AWStats screen by selecting the corresponding Reported period month and year.

If you need assistance setting this up, we would be happy to help, just let us know which software you are using for your website.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below, or contact live Tech Support.

In the meantime, I would recommend using a 3rd party statistics program, such as Google analytics.

It is free and provides more in-depth statistics, often accurate within 3 hours.

Thank you, -John-Paul The AWSTATS has not updated since November 1, 2012 on my site and when I try to manually update I get the message: Error: Log is currently being processed in the background. They are available 24/7 via: Email: [email protected]: 877-595-4482 x2 & Chat (there is a link on the top right).
